Totnes Swimming Club

  HISTORY

In 1950 Totnes S.C was affilaited to the A.S.A also to Paignton Swimming and Life Saving Club, sharing their water time at the marine spa. Every friday evening a double decker bus and a single would leave Totnes, returning early with young swimmers.

Turf DiggingTotnes Swimming and Life Saving Club, really came into being at the opening of the Totned Swimming Pol in July 1974. Which was entirely to do with members of the swimming club who badgered the council, espeically the Mayor Mr.S.Williams. The First Turf was dug in the Borough Park in 1973 by the Mayor, with swimming club members present, also Howard and Simon there for a photo take.

After a drowning trgaedy the Marine Spa was closed. Arthur Sandford, torquay Leanders coach, was offered water time in an open air 13 yard pool at the Lamorna Guest House the home of one of his squad. Lamorna S.C came into being a squad to be reckoned with, training with even snow on the ground, until 1974. In 1974 Arthur Sandford plus squad came to Totnes. Eventually he was offered a coaching job in Coventry, Simon took over, this was continued to 1985.
